Screen Blanks During Netflix

Sometimes the screen just goes blank (dark) when viewing Netflix movies. This doesn’t happen with other browsers and there is no energy saving or sleep modes enabled on my system. I have to wake it up then by pressing the keyboard.

While we realize this may be only for the more advanced users, we still decided to share it with you. As you may know, xxx doesn’t offer access to BBC’s live stream channels (i.e. BBC One) because the way BBC choose to geo fence the live streams would consume too much bandwidth on our proxy server. Commercial unblocking services just proxy the entire content streams as well since they have enough bandwidth to do that. The downside to proxying the content stream is that this acts just like a VPN service – you most likely won’t end up getting the best route to the actual content servers. You also share the unblocking proxy server with a number of other users which may result in degraded video quality, particularly when dealing with HD streams.

Here’s a combination of xxxx DNS and a Firefox extension to do some trickery. We’re assuming Firefox has already been installed.

Install the “Modify Headers” extension available from https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/modify-headers
Open the extension setup dialog
Add a new header:

Action: Modify

Header name: X-Forwarded-For

Header value: 212.58.241.131
Make sure there’s a green dot to the right and start the extension (smiley-button turns red).

Go to the BBC website and try one of their live streams:

You still need xxxxx DNS to get access to the main web site but the content stream itself will not be proxied through our servers. Make sure to switch off the extension once you’re done watching the stream. It’s probably a good idea to put the extension button on the toolbar so it can be switched on and off more easily.

due to changing DNS ,then KYLO needs to be closed.it would be a lot easier for a RESTART BUTTON as one press to flush out system and restart

ALSO can we in privacy has a CLEAR DATA ON START button so when KYLO starts those that are TICKED are cleared down automatically

VEVO issue (Adobe flash)

When watching a video in full screen, it exits (full screen) when the next video plays. Also, clicking another video in the timeline does not play the selected video; sometimes it replays the current, other times nothing. As in my other post, you also, cannot type in the video search box without it jumping out prematurely. All features seem to work fine in IE (v10). Is this an issue with your Flash addon? Anything that can be done to make it work properly (I’m sure its not isolated to VEVO)?

I use an Adesso ARC-1000 remote with Windows Media Center (and Kylo). Until recently it has worked well, but now I am experiencing problems. The only change to my systems has been to use LMRemote to alter some of the remote buttons.

My first issue is a self-moving, unrecoverable cursor. I have the option enabled to allow arrow keys (or the remote arrows) to move the cursor. Every now and again, the cursor will start moving all the way to one side and will not allow me to regain control. I need to close Kylo and try again. The remote’s IR sensor is not receiving any signals while this is happening (as the red receiver light does not stay on).

My second issue is the inability to close Kylo using the Alt-F4 key sequence. Instead it just shows the Bookmarks screen. I have verified via LMRemote that the correct sequence (Alt-F4) is being sent and have had no problems using this key with any other application.

The last issue has only recently happened (today). While attempting to play a video with Netflix, their player’s menu does not appear anymore; this means I cannot make the video fullscreen, move to the next episode, etc. I opened Netflix in IE9 for the same PC, and had no problems. Could this be a new problem with your browser’s compatibility with Silverlight? I do not believe any update has been applied.

I use your software daily and on each of my HTPCs (6 in all). Please help resolve these issues, as it has now become useless.

Media Center green button bug

I just started using Kylo and am very impressed. As a long time Media Center user, this is just the browser I’ve been waiting for all these years. I just have one tiny problem:

1. Open Kylo via Media Center menu
2. Push green button on remote to return to Media Center
3. Use Media Center menu to return to Kylo

When I do this, Kylo appears for a split second, but then I get bumped right back to Media Center.

I like this app it shows promise,
I use it in an over the shoulder mode.
e.g. A coax cable goes to a RF modulator box that goes to a TV, which links to the video card. unlike kylo I bend my neck over my shoulder behind me to carefully hit “full screen” in firefox. This is the way it works, it’s precarious at best but once it’s up it’s rock solid.

I Think I have a small security problem with this program though

I have a lot of plugins

1. Some plugins can not be updated. Because of compatibility problems (long story .mov in vegas 5 with quicktime ver bla +)
2. Some plugins I disable, when I know there is an exploit active.
3. Some I don’t want enabled ever, like Java.

Frankly, I disable everything for security reasons, until I specifically need them.

Of the following currently enabled plugins: Shockwave Flash, JDK, VLC, Microsoft WMP, Silverlight, DivX, Divx VOD, Quicktime, Panda, TVU, WPF, MS DRM, WMP Plug-in DLL, DRM, Divx Upload ; typically, I have flash, and Windows Media Player Plug-in Dynamic Link Library enabled, and the rest turned off until specifically needed. I believe this is a potential security disaster waiting to happen for many others beyond myself. There needs to be a “toggle page” with little “checkbox fields” and a “list” strongly in my opinion.

A lot of times I just switch things up, like sometimes I might enable only the VLC plugin when I hear of windows exploits. And sometimes I disable the VLC plugin when it has exploits.

Alternatively, Kylo needs a whitelist / blacklist.

There has to be a way to prevent plugins from just going willy nilly across the web. Even a TYPO could get you in bad trouble.
