Buffering Video

I have a max internet connection of about 300-500k download speed.  The video streaming stops every 30 seconds to buffer and then starts again.  Can a larger video buffer area be setup so I can download more of the video before playing the video?

The buffering is usually implemented at the player level, for example the youtube flash player will dictate how that particular youtube video is buffered.  Does this same issue happen in your other browsers?  I think this may be an issue between your internet connection speed and the video player playing your video.  Let us know what happens in Firefox or IE, whichever you use…

The intermittent stopping is a problem because of the internet speed.  I also use Zinc which when you pause the program will buffer until you hit play again on their player.  If you wait long enough the complete program will buffer.  They have a setting that asks you how much of the program do you want to buffer.  You should try to provide this type of feature with Kyolo.  I like your browser setup better than Zinc.

Thanks for the reply, we’ll take a look into Zinc and their approach to this.

I just installed Kylo and like it in many ways, but I am having buffering problems on youtube in full screen.

I have a very fast hard line FIOS connection, so there should never be playback problems.  On Kylo full screen on youtube, I’m getting constant problems where the buffer runs out and the video pauses to buffer.  Even worse, when the buffer runs out it never resumes play—it just sits there.  But if I exit full screen mode there’s some weird stutter and it suddenly realizes that it can resume playback and starts playing again.

Using the Chrome browser with the same video, same settings, full screen had absolutely no playback/buffering problems.  Somehow it seems like Chrome download and displays the videos much faster than Kylo.

I’m not sure what’s going on, but it seems like there’s some difference between Kylo and Chrome on youtube buffering and playback.

Thanks for the data, G970. (Can I call you G?)

If you have a chance, could you check the performance of the same video using Firefox? We’re based on the Firefox engine, so we inherit most of the upsides and downsides of the platform. But if you get smooth playback in Firefox and still stutter when using Kylo, then there’s probably something going on that we can do something about, once we understand the issue better.

Thanks,

Hi. I want to say that I really like how Kylo is coming along far and use it in my living room daily now.

I have three computers in my house and I get the same buffering issue in youtube full screen on all three of them.

I did some messing around trying a few different things and here’s what I found…
I like to turn on the “play next video when current video ends” settings.
I found out that when I re-boot my PC clean then start Kylo and don’t play ANY VIDEO before I play the Youtube video while using above setting feature (I must set it up in “settings” FIRST before I play any video)  there is no buffering or stalling in full screen and it plays sequentially perfectly. I did this clean re-boot and played Youtube by itself all night long last night without a hitch doing it this way in full screen.

Now here’s the clincher… If I interrupt this in anyway, like close Kylo and re-open (minimize or maximize) or revert back to small screen or do anything like fast forward or backtrack during at any time using above playback technique the buffering and stalling starts again in full screen until I re-boot again. Thankfully, moving the mouse during playback does not cause any problems.

Maybe someone else can replicate this.

Thanks for the additional information, Wolvesvillage. We’ll work on replicating this here and see what we can come up with.

If you have a chance to try the same experiment using Firefox, it would be helpful for us to see if there’s a difference in performance.

Congrats on the new version of Kylo (Version: 0.8.3.74822) but the problem still persists.

There is one notable improvement however. I only have to restart the Kylo program itself now and not reboot the whole computer. I can live with this for now.
